Cosmetic Lotro

Snow horse

Well I can’t say anymore that I’m unlucky this Anniversary festival! The beautiful steeds that drop from the invitations envelopes have found their way into the stables of quite a few of my characters already. I even got a steed on my main and another level capped character, so I couldn’t be happier. Now I must admit that I run this quest on 11 different characters, so after a while the odds were bound to turn in my favour. I was very happy when my dwarf rune-keeper was one of the lucky alts to get the Lossoth steed. He didn’t have the riding skill yet, as I don’t usually buy it for my low level alts and let them get the riding skill for free at the Hengstacer farm when they reach level 20. However I made an exception for this guy when he looted the steed, and made him promise that he will earn back the 95 TP by himself.
Now with another week left of the Anniversary Festival, I think there is still time and opportunity for everyone to eventually find a steed. After that, I really hope these steeds acquire a spot in the Lotro store as exclusives, because they are really beautiful and are just as attractive as the class mounts in my opinion. I never expected high morale and speed steeds to appear as random rewards during a festival, and I think this is an awesome gesture from Turbine.

This horse is not hard to make an outfit for as it combines well with black, browns and white. There’s even a blue detail on the saddle. I chose the Lossoth robe as it has the same hairy texture as the straps on the horse and robes always fit nicely on a dwarf.
The problem I reported in my previous post about undyeable rune-satchels does not seem to affect dwarves at all, only elves. I did file a bug report about it, and hope a fix will be in by the next update.

If you want to know where a certain armour piece or cosmetic comes from, you can look it up on Lotro Wiki, by typing its name into the search box. You can equip any piece of armour cosmetically through the wardrobe, even armour that is not meant for your class or level.

  1. Ooh! I knew you’d come up with something awesome for this horse! I wonder if playing with matching the blue part on the saddle might also bring out the blue tones in this horse’s fur.

While pretty much anything from Malledhrim armor to random world drops could go with the Steed of the Dusk Watch (aka Steed of the Warden) with a little umber or sienna dye, I’d love to see what you’d do with that as well. Given that the saddle has the Annúminas star on it, though, do you plan to do something Wardens-themed around it?

    • Blue is certainly a nice option for this horse, but I didn’t see a way to work that into this particular outfit. I’m definitely working with a Warden theme. Not entirely finished though!

Looks awesome. I always loved that dwarf beard style too.

Really jealous about the horse drop. I’ve already decided that my account is just bad luck — I seem to lose more rolls on things than anyone else I play with lol

This dwarf/pony combo is perfection!! I love the texture match, and the realistic look of it all. The screenshot of him patting its neck = too cute. Those boots look just like movie Balin wears. Who would have thought pointed toes suited dwarves so well?

I tried out this Lossoth steed when they offered it a few months ago (via a crumbling whistle) and was the first person to post a pic on the forums,

hoping that all I would have to do was get Kin with the Lossoth (not a small task, but achievable in time). So it bugged me no end this week that only by chance would I be able to get the mount for real. Despite trying each day (and even using some left over TP to boost my chances a bit) I had no luck.

Tonight I finally got it on my dwarf. I think the Tolkien gods took pity on me after a most horrid day for Hobbit movie fans (48 fps is a flop? Gods no!)

I hope they release more of these shaggy style mounts in the future. They look a little weird as horses, but they are great as ponies.

    • Oh I’m so happy for you!! I totally agree that this “shaggy” horse is better as a pony. Perfect for dwarves but very nice for hobbits as well. My runekeeper fell in love with him! Thanks for the compliments!

My hobbit minstrel just loves her Lossoth Pony :D! I’ve been trying to design the perfect cosmetic outfit for them since I got the horse… I have to say, seeing your very nice screenshots gives me some ideas. When I finally get VIP again, I’ll have to try something with that Cloak of the North Men on her. The cloak is very beautiful and is also just one of the many cosmetic gems I discovered on your blog 🙂 Thanks for having this!
