Now that I have discovered another niche in my outfitting hobby**, I did go after a few items that I really think are worth having. I am very happy with my minstrel shoulders but another item that always seemed miles beyond my reach is the “heavy armour robe”. This robe is only available as PvMP armour (guardian, champion and captain). There isn’t anything similar available in the PvE part of the game. As far as I am aware, it is the only heavy robe in Lotro.
I love the design on the shoulders, so I haven’t hidden it beneath any shoulder guards. The robe is beautiful on its own and doesn’t really need any additional items. It was quite expensive to obtain it, as the barter items needed to buy it are very expensive on the Auction House. I admit I received a lot of help and support to get to this item, so I didn’t go it all alone, but if one were to buy all the barter items off the Auction House, this robe would cost around 100g on my server. Thankfully I didn’t need to spend that much, but even the 40g that I did spend is more than worth it to me. I have enough gold so why not spend it on something I really like and is relatively unique in terms of an outfit.
**UPDATE: since Update 5 this is no longer possible. Turbine has decided we should not be able to barter for items we do not have the proficiency or class for!
In other news you must have heard by now that Update 5 will be coming this monday, and that the Yule Festival will be starting on December 20!! This is all very good news!
If you want to know where a certain armour piece or cosmetic comes from, you can look it up in the Lorebook, by typing its name into the search box. You can equip any piece of armour cosmetically through the wardrobe, even armour that is not meant for your class or level.
Head: Helm of the Hawk-eye, white dye (Ettenmoors barter, hunter)
Chest: Breastplate of the Enforcer, black dye (Ettenmoors barter, champion/guardian/captain)
Hands: Leather Bracers of the Gentle Stag, black dye (Dunland armour, medium)
Feet: Boar-hide Boots, black dye (Men of Dunland reputation reward, medium)
this is one absolutely amazing robe. i totally fell in love with it when i saw it in one of guest submissions (http://lotrofashion.blogspot.com/2011/05/guest-gwyenleath-of-gilrain.html) – it’s probably the best mage outfit i’ve ever seen. i hope with “darker” locations coming in further updates, we will see more cosmetics like this – it opens totally new possibilities of RP outfitting
oh and also – it’s such a pity the mask cannot be dyed well, it would make such a wonderful base for an inspiration outfit from war of the gods movie i saw today π http://beginningandend.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/immortals-movie-zeus-and-the-gods.jpg
Oo but I like it black! And I like it that you can dye the backside in a contrasting colour, now it seems like a real mask. π
I agree it looks much better black, would do even in the movie *chuckle* I’m just inspiration maniac so I’m sorry I can’t imitate that look π
I love this robe so much. It is such wonderful news that this and other PVMP gear might be obtainable for people who don’t enjoy PVMP. I also really love the pictures you took to show off this outfit. Very artistic. Love it!
Thank you! π
One of my favorites, spent ages on doing quest to aquire those valour marks, to open chests and hope for barter items. Took a while, but damn did it feel good when I finally got it! π
Aye that’s the “real” way to get it, and a much more satisfying result than buying the barter items with gold (though you have to grind the gold too), or even getting them from friends. I know that the cosmetics and horses that I “worked” the hardest for, are the ones that are most dear to me. However, regarding this robe, or regarding armour from classes that I don’t play, this is a very nice option. This robe is so very beautiful and unique! If there were a PvE option to get it, that doesn’t involve weekly raids, I would go for it that way. But PvMP is just something that is completely and utterly not for me.
Quick question, do you know if this has been lifted since, maybe in the update? The option to barter with the tokens bought or given to you by kinnies, i’m still getting the ‘your rank is too low’ message when i try to barter for something i have the stones for.
I have not been back to the Moors since the update and haven’t checked the vendors. Could it be they added a purchase restriction now? That would be a real bummer!
This piece of armor (the skin, anyway)is now a reward choice from the “Shades of the Past” quest in Rushgore.
That’s true! And I mentioned this in a more recent post: Swan Lake. I do not revise older posts when newer information becomes available, that would be a full time job!
